A Little Late

So, it's now 10:10am and it's been snowing now for roughly half an hour. Since the snow started so late, we're all at work and in class and traffic is going to be a mess. News is that there's 5 inches down in Lynchburg, Fauquier County schools are closed (where my parents and brothers live) and Fairfax closed early this morning before a snowflake even hit the ground.

It's coming down pretty heavily, almost like a white-out. Keep snowing! I love snow. Maybe I'll get off work early today! Maybe I get to work more inclement weather hours, we'll see. At least I live on campus and can walk home, there's no way I'm driving in this! Thank goodness I went grocery shoping yesterday, too. Hot soup for luch today!

Oh, and the other thing, I'm supposed to teach class tomorrow for my writing fellowship, which is cool and all, but I'm a little nervous. I don't know what I'd do if class was cancelled due to snow. I guess I'll have to cram everything into the class session that I have to teach Thursday. Ah, rising stress levels.

Oh, and if anyone has seen the movies "M," "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance," or "Deep Cover" let me know if you can help me with a scene analysis that's due tomorrow!

Snow Storm

The news just said that we're supposed to get a snow storm tonight starting around 12am and continuing through Tuesday. All I can say? Please LET IT SNOW!!

I haven't been sledding yet this year and I have three papers due this week.

I'd like four feet, please.

Saturdays

This morning I woke up early, well, earlier than usual on a Saturday morning. I had to meet BR, Theresa, and Bennett to head to the Metro. I got ready in less time than I thought so I ran to the JC for a bagel and coffee. BR picked me up and we stopped at a Starbucks so I could get a good cup of coffee. We met Bennett and Theresa at the Vienna Metro and, of course, I had Ben hold my coffee for me so I could put some more money on my SmartPass. Bennett went to go through the gate to get to the train and the attendant started talking about my coffee. What has my coffee done to deserve this? Basically, there's no food or drink allowed so I had to throw away my morning's livelihood.

Spent the rest of the morning and most of the afternoon in the Newspaper and Periodicals room. Found papers for my William Jennings Bryan piece, but the more I found, the less I wanted to do the project. I think I'm going to change my piece and focus on the Tulsa race riot that happened in 1921. It's a really interesting part of history that not many people have heard about. I got the old Tulsa Worlds from that time and the Daily Oklahomans, but the thing is that teh LOC doesn't have the Tulsa Tribune at all. They have it listed in their catalogue, but they don't have the paper at all. The other tricky aspect of this project is that the Tulsa World for the day of the riot is missing. I remember hearing about it in the news when I lived there, but they were only talking about the Tulsa Public Library, not the LOC. I guess it either never got printed, or all hell broke loose (which it did) and the paper didn't run on June 1, 1921. Crazy. I think this will be a fun project.

BR dropped me off at my apartment around 4:30, maybe even 5, I'm not sure. I watched the rest of "Where the Heart Is" with my apartment-mate. Sometimes you need a cute movie, why not. I took a nap and then went over to my RA job for the evening, which is where I am now. Jason and I did a diversity program tonight. We watched Hedwig and the Angry Inch and ordered pizza. Not very many residents showed up, but I got credit for it. No one really liked the movie though. Weird. It's one of my favorites.

Doing vocabulary homework for the rest of tonight. And SNL.

Another Day, Another Dollar

So, I'm back at work today. I have four jobs, surprisingly. I'm a resident advisor, a writing fellow with the University Writing Center, and I have my two library jobs. This weekend I'm not too sure what's going on. I know Saturday we're all going to the Library of Congress to do research for our Writing History class. I'm writing on William Jennings Bryan. He seems an interesting character.

The snow's melting and of course, the campus is open. So much for more inclement weather hours. I had to sit the circulation desk for eight hours. Never again.

If anyone has any info on writing an abstract or has any pointers let me know. I have to write up two--a professional and a general--for my fellowship. Add that onto my film paper due Tuesday and set piece Wednesday...At least my other homework is done for the next week or so. I got bored. It's a long story.

P.S. Facebook is super-cool.

My First Post

I really don't have much to write because it's snowing. I can write about how it's snowing and has been all day, but that would be about it. I'm at work today since we don't have class. I work at the Johnson Center Library at George Mason University as both an administrator and circulation assistant.

I'm an English major. Aaron calls me an "English Nazi;" I think it's because I can read, write, and speak well, I guess. And yes, I did just use a semi-colon. I love nonfiction. I want to write for a major magazine one day, but for now I have to find a job and an apartment because after graduation I will be homeless.
